All types of waste previously accepted at our six household waste recycling centres will be accepted from Wednesday.

It means items like soil, rubble, batteries, fluorescent tubes, textiles and gas bottles will now be accepted.

A full list of the sites locations and what materials are accepted can be found on our Waste and Recycling pages.

The sites at East Kilbride, Blantyre and Rutherglen will not open until 12pm on Wednesday (29 July) to help facilitate the new arrangements.

Larkhall and Strathaven will still open at 9am, Carluke at 8am.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: “We are delighted that as restrictions continue to ease, household waste recycling centres can now accept everything they did prior to lockdown.

“We anticipate that our sites will be extremely busy during this period, so please be patient, consider if you really need to visit, and only do so if you have no COVID-19 symptoms.

“The sites themselves have different layouts than normal to make sure physical distancing can still be maintained.

“Staff at the sites cannot assist with unloading vehicles so make sure anything you bring you are able to remove from your vehicle and place in the appropriate skip.

“Please note that any verbal abuse of staff by members of the public is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.

“Also, please be aware that members of the public cannot access any of the sites on foot.”

Trade waste will be accepted from Tuesday at the East Kilbride, Rutherglen, Blantyre and Carluke sites on Tuesdays and Thursdays only (charges will apply).

Vans and trailers will now be accepted on Sundays between 9am and 4pm from 2 August. This means vans and trailers can visit the sites on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. No long-based wheel vans are permitted, only single axle trailers.
