Births across South Lanarkshire can now be registered again.

The service was temporarily suspended because of the global pandemic.

However, anyone wishing to register a birth can now do so from today.

Due to the high number of births to be registered, the service will resume in order of birth date:
• For babies born before 31 March registration will begin from today (29 June)
• For babies born between 1 April and 30 April registration will begin from 6 July 2020
• For babies born between 1 May and 31 May registration will begin from 27 July 2020
• For babies born between 1 June and 30 June registration will begin from 17 August 2020
• For babies born between 1 July and 31 July registration will begin from 7 September 2020
• For babies born from 1 August onwards, registration will begin from 28 September 2020

These dates may change depending on the volume of birth registrations.

Head of Administration and Legal Services, Geraldine McCann, said: “We will work to ensure that births are registered as quickly as possible but your patience will be much appreciated as the backlog of registrations is processed.

“You can arrange for a birth to be registered by calling 01698 453792/454023 from 8.45am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, 8.45am to 4pm on Fridays and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays.”

More information, including what you need to provide over the phone to register a birth, where to attend to register and what you will receive, is available from the council website.
