Homeswapper – a new mutual exchange service for council tenants
Published: Monday 22 June 2026
There is a high demand for social rented housing and for many council tenants, mutual exchange may be the best way to find an alternative home.
Homeswapper is an easy to use on line service which operates across the United Kingdom, helping tenants to search for and identify other tenants who may wish to mutual exchange. South Lanarkshire Council tenants can now use Homeswapper completely free of charge.
If you are interested in a mutual exchange, then please register on Homeswapper and create an online account at www.homeswapper.co.uk, then follow the easy on-screen steps to complete your application.
Once your registration is approved, you will be able to access adverts and match up with other potential swappers.
If you find another tenant to mutual exchange with, you must get permission from the council before you move. More information on mutual exchange is available on the council website.
