Volunteer group handed £500 to continue DIY services
Published: Wednesday 29 July 2026
A local group of volunteers have been given support from a local building firm to help them continue offering a vital service to those in need.
The Larkhall and District Volunteer Group was given £500 after making a request to the Community Benefits Hub to help it continue its free Handyperson Service which recently faced a reduction in core funding to support one of our most valued services.
And now, thanks to Ailsa Builders, the dedicated volunteers will be able to continue carrying out small, non-emergency DIY tasks for local adults who are unable to do the work themselves, helping them maintain their independence, safety, and comfort at home.
The volunteers carry out everything from changing ceiling light bulbs and fitting mobility aids to assembling flat-pack furniture or installing key safes.
Sandra McCrory from LDVG said: “Our handyperson service helps people maintain their independence by carrying out non‑emergency DIY jobs around the home. As this service is delivered entirely by our incredible volunteers, receiving a financial donation from Ailsa Builders is truly amazing. Their support will allow us to continue offering this much‑needed service, and we are extremely grateful for their generosity.”
And Lorraine Redmond from Ailsa Builders added: “We recognise the handyperson service is an integral part of the community in Larkhall and are delighted to support the amazing volunteers who deliver this service”
The Community Benefits Hub is supported by the council’s Community Engagement Team. The Hub replaces the Community Wish List, providing a new way for groups and businesses to work together to deliver benefits for local people.
