Volunteers are being urged to sign up to help conserve local nature reserves (LNR) across South Lanarkshire.

And you don’t have to wait long as volunteers are now being sought for the next programme of work which is taking place at South Haugh, part of the Hamilton Low Parks LNR, on Thursday 21 May.

Countryside Ranger Melanie Craig, who manages the Hamilton Low Parks Local Nature Reserve, said: “Our volunteers undertake a wide range of conservation tasks including woodland management, removal of invasive plant species, tree thinning, litter picking, path maintenance and much more.

“Volunteers should dress for the weather as well as wearing sturdy footwear to cope with the ground being worked on. Please also bring a packed lunch – we will supply tea/coffee/biscuits.”

It is essential that you sign up to volunteer so that the numbers of people coming along on the day can be catered for with tools, gloves and other materials to suit the work being carried out on the day. Please be aware there are no toilets on site.

Conservation Days take place every other Thursday, predominantly at South Haugh but occasionally at Low Parks, Udston & Glenlee Woods and Westburn.

The work always starts at 10am and finish around 2.30pm. Please email Melanie.Craig@southlanarkshire.gov.uk for the details of where and when the Conservation Days will take place and what tasks will be undertaken.
