Granting a boost to six local groups
Published: Tuesday 5 May 2026
Six local groups have been supported with community grants totalling more than £2000 from the council’s Hamilton Area Committee.
Five of the grant awards were made to support people to live the healthiest lives possible, with £300 to Eddlewood Bowling Club Ladies Section for an outing; £350 to Dalserf Church Guild, Larkhall, for an outing and entrance fees; £300 to Larkhall New Parish Church Guild Outings Fund for an outing; £300 to Strutherhill and Birkenshaw Action Group for start-up costs covering equipment and materials; and £350 to Hamilton District Twinning Association for an outing and entrance fees.
The community grants scheme includes provision for funding playschemes operating over the Summer, October and Easter school holiday periods and, at its meeting this week, the Area Committee also awarded £440 to Childcare in the Community, Hamilton.
The community grants scheme was established and is run by the council to fund activities and projects that bring communities together and that promote educational, recreational, leisure and other activities, or improve the local environment.
Support can be provided for a range of activities including administration and publicity costs, purchase of equipment and materials, annual outings and entrance fees, start-up costs and special events.
More information on the criteria, activities that attract funding and the application process is available on the Community Grants page of the council website.
