Grants awarded to “can do” communities
Published: Thursday 26 February 2026
Community groups are to share £200,000 in grants that will support a wide range of services, including projects to help disabled children and deliver lifelong learning.
The grants of between £4,000 and £20,000 will go to more than a dozen organisations from the council’s Community Can Do Fund.
The grants were approved by the Finance and Corporate Resources Committee after applications were assessed by a scoring panel that included council officers and Voluntary Action South Lanarkshire (VASLan), which represents the local third sector.
The Community Can Do Fund emerged from a groundbreaking new Partnership Agreement signed last year between the council and VASLan. The fund supports projects which align with the outcomes sought through the Council Plan.
The 2026-27 Community Can Do grants are being financed through one-off funds that were available from the council’s former Community Medium Grants allocation.
However, the council’s Executive Committee agreed on 4 February to extend that with an allocation of a total of £400,000 available across 2027-28 and 2028-29.
Applications for next year’s grants will open later this year and will be publicised at the time. More details of eligibility can be found in the council’s grants policy.
Kirkhill Bowling Club in Cambuslang (pictured above) previously secured funding of nearly £10,000 from the Can Do Community Fund, which is similar to the Community Can Do Fund.
