Residents across South Lanarkshire can now sign up for a permit to have their garden waste uplifted from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Garden waste permits are now available to order online in advance of 1 April 2026 when the next permit collection period will come into effect.

Please click here to apply for the permit where you will also find more details including how to display your permit what can be put in the bin.

Residents can purchase permits for a maximum of three bins - the same charge applies regardless of bin size (140 litre or 240 litre).

The permit applies from 1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Please note - your  payment will come out of your bank immediately like any other online transaction. The permit will then be printed and prepared to send out to you immediately thereafter.

Food waste will continue to be collected free of charge for households that decide not to sign up for a garden waste permit.

The scheme applies to the whole of South Lanarkshire including rural Clydesdale where many households previously did not receive a burgundy bin collection.

Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “Householders with gardens are able to purchase permits for the 12-month period between the start of April and the end of March.

“For households that do not wish to purchase a permit, there are many free options available such as taking items to any of our six household recycling centres or composting waste at home. Information on both of these is available on the council’s website.

“Households with permits in place will see their bins collected every two weeks, except over the Christmas and New Year period.”

Residents can apply for permits on the council’s website.
