Drop in to find out all you need to know about adopting
Published: Friday 21 November 2025
Could you provide a loving and permanent home for a child?
There are children across South Lanarkshire who need the stability of a caring home, and two drop-in sessions in the coming weeks will explain all about adoption.
The sessions will provide information, answers and encouragement.
Both events will be held at the West Wing Reception of the council headquarters in Almada Street, Hamilton, where it will be possible to meet with staff from the council’s Family Connections Team.
The first session will be held on Wednesday, 26 November, from 5.30-7.30pm, while the second will run on the following Tuesday, 2 December, from 2-4pm.
If someone is unable to attend either of the drop-in sessions but is interested in adopting, they can find full information on the council’s website on what adoption involves, the application process and the support that is given.
Chair of the council’s Social Work Resources Committee, Councillor Margaret Walker, said: “The dedicated and experienced staff of our Family Connections team work closely with, and provide expert support to, prospective and existing adoptive parents and are the perfect people to talk to if you are interested in offering a child a life within a loving family.
“I would urge anyone who is considering this to take the chance to come along to either of the drop-in sessions and learn all they want and need to know about what it involves during the application process and in their life thereafter.”
Adoption is open to people over the age of 21 who are single, married, in a civil partnership, divorced, widowed or cohabiting and applications are accepted from enquirers both with or without children.
