New councillor elected

Grant Ferguson was elected to represent Ward 8 – East Kilbride Central North - last night after a by-election.
Councillor Ferguson, of the Scottish National Party, won at the fifth stage under the STV voting system, having secured 1,582 first preference votes.
A total of 3,405 valid votes were cast, with 51 rejected papers, representing a 26.7% turnout.
Councillor Ferguson, who is deaf, gave his victory address through a sign language interpreter. He paid tribute to Sheena Wardhaugh, the long-standing councillor whose death caused the by-election.
