Essential upgrades to road in Lanark
Published: Monday 6 October 2025
Improvements to a road in Lanark are to take place this month.
The A73 Hyndford Road, between Lake Avenue and Home Street, will close on Monday 13 October at 7am for up to seven days to allow carriageway resurfacing work to take place.
No motor vehicles (except those engaged in the work and emergency service vehicles) will be able to park or drive on the road during this time.
The signed diversion routes will utilise A73 Hyndford Road, Wellgatehead, Wellgate, A743 and A70.
Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “Due to the number of properties affected by the closure, access will be maintained when possible.
“Significant delays are to be expected before this can be accommodated. Access and egress from alternative directions and locations may be required.
“We would ask road users to avoid the area if possible, and if not, to make sure they leave extra time for their journeys.
“We are sure road users will appreciate the long-term benefits of the improvements when the work has been completed.”
The timing has been carefully selected to coincide with the school October break, when traffic volumes are typically lower. This approach aims to minimise disruption, particularly in light of the nearby Lanark Grammar School.
