Allotment open day
Published: Tuesday 5 August 2025
Allers Allotments in East Kilbride is having an open day this weekend.
The allotment will be open to everyone on Saturday 9 August in the run-up to this year’s National Allotment Week which celebrates the benefits of these green spaces for our health, wellbeing and the planet.
So why not come along to the allotments at 96 Barrie Road, East Kilbride, between 1-4pm and check out some of the wonderful products lovingly produced on the site from fruit and veg, to home baking, jams and preserves.
And there are also plant sales, a tombola, raffle and a chance to have a chat over a cuppa in the tearoom and find out more about allotments.
Councillor Norman Rae, the Chair of the council’s Climate and Sustainability Committee, said: “Growing your own food, either on an allotment, at home or as part of a community project, provides tasty food without food miles.
“It has no negative impact on the environment, provides a healthy lifestyle through regular outdoor exercise and also improves your mental wellbeing.”
So why not come along to the highly popular annual Allers open day.
And once you’ve got a taste for growing your own, please go to our Food growing projects and Growing food at home information pages.
