Setting council rents for 2025/26
Published: Monday 2 June 2025

Each year, the council considers its budget and business plan to determine rent levels for the coming year.
This year’s rent consultation focused on the commitment made by the council last year to return to a three year approach to setting rents, with an annual review. The three year approach, which was supported by tenants, helps both the council and tenants to plan and budget more effectively during these uncertain times.
Of those who participated in this year’s consultation, 52% of tenants confirmed their support for the continuation of a 6.5% increase in rent levels for 2025-26.
Maintaining this level of increase for a second year enables the council to deliver its proposed programme of investment in existing council homes, increase the number of affordable council homes in South Lanarkshire and continue to deliver high quality housing services to tenants. It also ensures that the council continues to be one of the most affordable landlords in Scotland.
Sharon Egan, Head of Housing Services, said: “This rent increase allows us to continue our investment in our existing homes while working towards increasing the supply of new, affordable homes. We are committed to ensuring our rents remain affordable while still providing high-quality housing services that our tenants expect.”
