Expansions on way for three schools
Published: Friday 30 May 2025
Three secondary schools in South Lanarkshire are to be expanded.
A new build extension and internal adaptations will be carried out at both Holy Cross High School in Hamilton and St Andrews and St Brides High School in East Kilbride.
A small building extension will take place at Uddingston Grammar School.
The expansions are necessary to cope with projected increases in the number of pupils attending each school, mainly due to Community Growth Areas.
Work at all three schools is expected to be undertaken predominantly during the summer school holiday periods (starting from this summer) and be completed by 2027.
The total amount of investment required is £18.5 million, with £13.5 million coming from the Glasgow City Region City Deal, and £5 million from contributions by developers.
A City Deal Change Control Request is required to refine the funding for the work.
Interim Executive Director of Education Resources, Anne Donaldson, said: “We are confident the work planned for the three schools will help ease the pressure they are facing and will face in the future with regards pupil numbers.
“We will strive to ensure the work carried out is done with minimal disruption to the pupils.”
All other secondary schools will continue to be monitored on an annual basis with regards capacity, however, no other secondary schools are predicted to be significantly over capacity at this time.
Full details of the report can be found on the council’s website.
