Good sports are a perfect match for each other

A couple of good sports have celebrated their greatest prize of all – 60 years of married bliss.
Joyce and Mitchell Saddler came from Airlie and Forfar respectively but met at a dance at Kirremuir town Hall and have now marked their diamond wedding anniversary.
Mitchell’s parents ran the successful family bakers, Saddlers of Forfar, famously producing the Forfar Bridie but he followed a different career and entered banking.
His job as a bank manager with RBS brought the couple to Cambuslang and it was there that they raised their sons, Lindsay and Andrew, and daughter, Angela, who in turn have given them their seven grandchildren.
Joyce is very actively involved with the local church and until recently enjoyed weekly badminton classes to keep fit, while Mitchell’s great passion (other than Joyce, of course) is golf.
That sport definitely runs in his family, with his brother, Sandy, having played internationally for Scotland 22 times and GB 14 times, including three Walker Cup tournaments. Mitchell still plays regularly and especially loves the times he plays with Andrew’s two sons.
Joyce and Mitchell received a special visit to help celebrate their momentous anniversary from South Lanarkshire’s Deputy Provost Bert Thomson, who presented the couple with flowers and a certificate on behalf of the council and Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Lanarkshire Janet Low, who handed over a certificate to mark their achievement and a congratulatory card from King Charles.
