Charity initiative touches lives across South Lanarkshire

More than £75,000 has been raised so far following the launch of the Touch a Life, Make a Difference initiative.
South Lanarkshire Council approved the launch of the initiative earlier this year, to encourage local organisations, community groups, local people and schoolchildren to raise money for good causes within their own and the wider South Lanarkshire area.
The money raised this year will go towards Kilbryde Hospice, and it was agreed that next year’s primary beneficiaries will be Sense Scotland and The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
Led by the Provost’s Office, this year’s initiative was supported by the Lord Lieutenant of Lanarkshire’s office, as will next year’s events.
Staff from the council and leisure trust have helped to contribute to the sum for this year, along with the general public.
Provost Margaret Cooper said: “I am delighted at the success of the first year of the Touch a Life, Make a Difference initiative.
“The money raised this year will go towards the Kilbryde Hospice, and I am sure every resident of South Lanarkshire will agree that the work the do is outstanding and worthy of our support.
“I am also delighted that the Council agreed that next year’s initiative will support Sense Scotland and The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.
“They are also two organisations who do a tremendous amount of work to support people across South Lanarkshire and beyond.”
For next year, nominations will also be sought from Elected Members for four further local beneficiaries, one beneficiary from each area (Clydesdale, Hamilton, East Kilbride and Cambuslang/Rutherglen).
Provost Cooper added: “We kicked things off this year with a Burns Supper event, which raised a magnificent £42,000.
“And our musical tour – which showcased some amazing talent and played across South Lanarkshire – added another £12,000 to the total.
“Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far, I can’t express how grateful I am for your generosity, particularly as I know many of you are under financial pressures of your own. It is hugely appreciated.”
