Wish enables group to stick it to litter

A Strathaven group is cleaning up on the environmental front with a little help from the Community Wish List.
Climate Action Strathaven (CAS) works with individuals and community groups to help address the climate emergency and reflect its urgency.
As part of these endeavours, CAS is aiming to organise 60-minute litter-picks around Strathaven Town Centre throughout the year – but needed litter-grabbing sticks for adults and children.
Security and Communications business RACAM heard of their need through the Community Wish List and stepped in to donate exactly what they needed.
The company’s Commercial Manager, Calum Maguire, said: “RACAM was delighted to provide donations to Climate Action Strathaven.
“We have a strong commitment to engaging with the local community as part of our ongoing working relationship with South Lanarkshire Council, and are delighted to be able to help the Strathaven people help themselves and the environment.”
Alison Harley, the Programme Manager at CAS, said: “We run four litter-picking events each year within our community, and receiving these new sticks means we can open the events up to even more attendees.
“We also loan litter-picking materials to other community groups within Strathaven in an effort to keep our streets and green belt litter-free, and this donation will enable so much more of this to be done.”
The Community Wish List is supported by the council’s Community Engagement Team and was created by the council to enable groups and organisations to make requests for specific support to benefit their local community.
Chair of the council's Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: “This is another great example of the Community Wish List and the benefits it can bring to local communities and organisations.
“I would like to thank RACAM and all of the other companies who have so generously donated time, money and resources so far, and look forward to seeing the benefits their donation will bring to Climate Action Strathaven.”
Local community groups can still submit a wish to the Community Wish List. To find out more, go to the council website, send an email, or call 0303 123 1017.
