Country parks masterplans to be shaped by local communities
Published: Thursday 1 August 2024
Consultation is underway on improvements to South Lanarkshire’s two country parks.
The consultation will allow the local community and stakeholders to shape, comment and ask questions about the future of Chatelherault and Calderglen Country Parks, based in Hamilton and East Kilbride respectively.
You can take part in the online survey by going to the council website. There are also a number of posters at both parks, with further details, and a QR code which will take park users straight to the survey.
Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “South Lanarkshire’s country parks are hugely popular with local people and visitors alike.
“Our vision for our country parks is to develop a develop a strategy for investment which establishes them as regional destinations.
“We want them to offer vibrant and welcoming facilities which are linked to and contribute towards the surrounding communities.
“To achieve this, we need local people and park users to tell us what they want to see developed in the country parks.
“The parks are very much at the heart of our communities, and I know they attract visitors from far and wide because of the unique attractions and facilities they provide.
“This first stage of public consultation will allow us to develop 10-year masterplans for both Chatelherault and Calderglen Country Parks, with us looking to make investment where resources allow.”
Some infrastructure improvements could include upgrading pedestrian and cycle routes, improving biodiversity, enhanced visitor areas and enhanced play areas.
The consultation will remain open until Wednesday 14 August.
