A top transport award has been won by the roads Service at South Lanarkshire Council.
The council picked up the prize for Most Effective Road Safety, Traffic Management and Enforcement at the 2024 Scottish Transport Awards.
The team adopt a holistic approach to road safety, deploying the four Es: education, engineering, enforcement, and encouragement.
The overall aim is to prevent collisions resulting in death and serious injury by focusing on safe roads, safe speeds, safe vehicles and safe people.
The approach has led to a continuing downward trend of road casualties across South Lanarkshire.
Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “I am delighted that the Service has been recognised for their hard work across such an important area.
“Of course, we know we cannot be complacent and will continue to do everything we can to improve safety on roads across South Lanarkshire.
“We take a ‘whole life’ approach to road safety education, training, and publicity, with initiatives aimed at all ages and road users.
“It is believed that good habits are best developed when people are young. Therefore, significant emphasis is given to educating and training children and young people with other initiatives also available for other age groups and for various modes of travel.
“The impact of our work is reflected in the accident statistics, and we also believe it is one of the key reasons why we were successful at the awards.”
