Candidates announced for General Election

The candidates for the UK General Election 2024 for the South Lanarkshire area have been confirmed.
The election will take place on Thursday 4 July and in the East Kilbride and Strathaven constituency the candidates are:
- Grant Daniel Costello – Scottish National Party (SNP)
- Ross Alexander Lambie – Scottish Conservative and Unionist
- Donald Mackay – UK Independence Party
- Ann McGuiness – Scottish Green Party
- David Mills – Reform UK
- Aisha Mir – Scottish Liberal Democrats
- Joani Reid – Scottish Labour Party
- David Richardson – Scottish Family Party: Pro-Family, Pro-Marriage, Pro-Life
In the Hamilton and Clyde Valley constituency, the candidates are:
- Kyle Burns – Scottish Liberal Democrats
- Ross Clark – Scottish National Party (SNP)
- Christopher Ho – UK Independence Party
- Lisa Judge – Reform UK
- Richard Nelson – Scottish Conservative and Unionist
- Imogen Walker – Scottish Labour Party
In the Rutherglen constituency, the candidates are:
- Gloria Adebo – Scottish Liberal Democrats
- Bill Bonnar – Scottish Socialist Party – Free Public Transport
- Gary Burns – Scottish Conservative and Unionist
- Andrew Vincent Daly – Independent
- Jim Eadie – Alba Party: Yes to Scottish Independence
- Katy Loudon – Scottish National Party (SNP)
- John McArthur – Scottish Family Party
- Michael Shanks – Scottish Labour Party
- David Stark – Reform UK
For the Constituency of Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale (which takes in the Clydesdale area of South Lanarkshire and is administered by the Returning Officer for Dumfries and Galloway Council, Dawn Roberts), the candidates are:
- Dominic Ashmole – Scottish Greens
- Drummond Begg – Scottish Liberal Democrats
- Daniel Coleman – Scottish Labour Party
- Gareth Kirk – Scottish Family Party
- David Alexander Kirkwood – Reform UK
- Kim Marshall – Scottish National Party (SNP)
- David Mundell – Scottish Conservative and Unionist
For the Constituency of Motherwell, Wishaw and Carluke (which takes in the towns of Carluke, Law, Braidwood and Forth within South Lanarkshire and is administered by the Returning Officer for North Lanarkshire Council, Des Murray), the candidates are:
- Oyebola Regina Ajala – Scottish Conservative and Unionist
- Hayley Bennie – Scottish Liberal Democrats
- Marion Fellows – Scottish National Party (SNP)
- Gus Ferguson – British Unionists – For a Better Britain
- Ross Hagen – Scottish Libertarian Party
- Robert McLaughlan – Reform UK
- Gordon Thomas Miller – Scottish Greens
- Pamela Nash – Scottish Labour
- Neil Wilson – UK Independence Party
Returning Officer Paul Manning said: “We would encourage everyone to use their vote in the forthcoming UK General Election.
“Please be aware that for this election, to vote in person you will need an acceptable form of photo ID to show to the polling staff. More information on this, as well as about the election in general, is available from the council website.”
