May is National Walking Month
Published: Wednesday 1 May 2024
Today is the start of National Walking Month.
Walking is a wonderful way to improve your physical and mental health.
It reduces the risk of depression, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and even some cancers. It can also lift your mood, help you to connect with nature - and replace the car for shorter trips. You can improve your health, protect the environment and save money just by walking or wheeling.
Even short walks make a big difference.
The Think, Move, Breathe campaign aims to help people living and working in South Lanarkshire engage in a more active lifestyle and improve the air quality by choosing to leave the car and walk, cycle, wheel or take the bus and train when travelling in and around South Lanarkshire.
During National Walking Month you are invited to step up and try walking a little bit further. We guarantee it will make you feel great - and you could win some BetterPoints to treat yourself or donate to charity.
Download the free BetterPoints app from the App Store or Google Play and get started today, you could be in with a chance to win daily prizes or medals with motivational messaging to help you along the way.
We can't wait to #WalkThisMay with you.
