New bridge set to open

A new £9.4 million bridge spanning 90 metres over the River Clyde is expected to open next week.
The replacement Clyde Bridge, on Pettinain Road just outside the village of Carstairs Junction, is planned to open on Monday 22 April.
The new bridge replaces the old one which was closed to traffic in August 2018 for safety reasons due to severe structural defects.
Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “The opening of this new bridge will restore a much needed and well used route for the local community.
“I would like to thank local people’s patience during this process, and it will help connect communities in Clydesdale.”
