Adults with disabilities can now enjoy cinema and games nights – thanks to the council’s Community Wish List.

The charity Sense Scotland were looking for financial donations to help them transform a rarely used quiet lounge into a youth space for the increasing numbers of younger adults using their service.

It would enable the service users to spend time with friends or have some quiet time alone.

A M Phillip Trucktech Ltd responded to the appeal with a donation of £250.

Sam Taylor, Registered Manager, Short Breaks (Blantyre), said: “This money will go towards the purchase of a projector and other items for our project.

“This will be to support our adults with disabilities to have cinema and games nights so will be a great social experience for everyone.

“They will use our quiet room which has been revamped for our project – this is a space that isn’t utilised well so it will open up more opportunities for people supported who are on their respite break.

“Thanks to Alan from A M Philips for the kind donation and how quickly it all happened, this will help change service users time within the project.”

Alan Haggart from A M Phillip Trucktech Ltd said: “We always look to support local communities whenever possible and the Community Wish List provides us with a fantastic opportunity to do just that.

“We value the support that we receive from South Lanarkshire Council and are grateful for the chance to share our success with the people who need it most.

“The Community Wish List gives us the confidence to know that our help is going directly to local groups who do fantastic work and gives us the knowledge that we in some small way, we contribute to their survival and ensuring they continue to make a difference.”

The Community Wish List is supported by South Lanarkshire Council’s Community Engagement Team.

Chair of the council's Finance and Corporate Resources Committee, Councillor Lesley McDonald, said: "This is another great example of the Community Wish List and the benefits it can bring to local communities and organisations.

"I would like to thank all the companies who have so generously donated so far."
