Artwork from local young people on show at Rutherglen park

Public art pieces currently on display at Cuningar Loop have been designed by senior pupils from Stonelaw High School.
The pupils have been working with two artists who have led them through the process of researching, designing, and manufacturing the artwork.
The project is a partnership between South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (SLLC) Arts and Culture team and Clyde Gateway.
Three designs were picked by a panel to be taken forward:
- A 3D-illusion art piece that consists of two different pictures, but depending on where you look determines what image you see.
- A temporary art installation that consists of recycled bottles as bird feeders.
- And a mosaic piece that is set in the ground so that it marks a meeting place for young people.
Stonelaw High School Acting Head Teacher Vicki Rice said: “Our senior art pupils were delighted to be involved in the project and it is fantastic to see their ideas come alive in such a meaningful way.
“They should be immensely proud that visitors to Cuningar Loop will be able to stop and enjoy the artwork they have created.
“It was a fantastic experience for them to see how artworks like this can evolve from an idea right through to them actually being installed, and all the steps in between.”
Chief Executive of SLLC, Kay Morrison, said: “Well done to all the pupils involved and the artwork they have created looks amazing.
“I would also like to thank Clyde Gateway for partnering with us on this project.”
Fiona McLean, Project Manager Business and Community Growth at Clyde Gateway said: “It has been fantastic working alongside SLLC and Stonelaw High school on this art project.
“The pupils worked extremely hard on the pieces and it has been wonderful to see the winning ideas come to life in Cuningar Loop for the whole community to enjoy.”
