For the third day of our annual Winter Awareness Week, we are focusing on planning ahead.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “Planning any journey you are about to take can make a huge difference.

“As well as considering the safest route and mode of transport, you should also always consider if the journey is essential.

“If driving is the only option available, make sure you check the latest weather forecast as well as any current or predicted change in conditions.

“Weather changes can happen very quickly so always make sure you are prepared.”

You can use the following methods to check the forecast:

  • local radio or TV stations,
  • the Met Office or the Met Office weather app
  • local 24hr forecast links posted on the @SLCRoads Twitter feed. Info is also available from the following Twitter feeds - @SLCouncil, @Trafficscotland and @bbctravelscot
  • drivers should allow extra time for their journeys and also ensure they a snack, something to drink and any medication to allow for delays

In particular, listen for any severe weather warnings being issued by the Met Office.
