Safety approach scoops transport award

The council’s approach to road safety, traffic management and enforcement has been recognised with a top transport award.
At the Scottish Transport Awards 2022, South Lanarkshire Council’s Roads and Transportation Service won the ‘Most Effective Road Safety, Traffic Management and Enforcement’.
The team adopt the ‘Four Es’ approach to road safety – Education, Engineering, Enforcement and Encouragement.
Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “Huge congratulations to all the team on this significant award.
“It is testimony to their hard work and determination to improve the safety on roads across South Lanarkshire.
“The ‘Four E’s’ approach aims to prevent collisions resulting in death and serious injury by focusing on Safe Roads, Safe Speeds, Safe Vehicles and Safe People.
“The team don’t always get the credit they deserve but the fact is that injury accidents in South Lanarkshire have broadly declined for a decade whilst car use has gone up steadily.
“We are always conscious that more work needs to be done, and I know the team will continue to press forward with improvements that will help make our roads safer for everyone.”
