Jubilee Award for those making difference to environment
Published: Tuesday 5 July 2022
Do you know someone in South Lanarkshire who is making a difference to the environment as a volunteer?
They why not nominate them for a Jubilee Award?
The Environment Platinum Jubilee Awards category would recognise voluntary work which has enhanced the local environment and/or helped combat climate change. This category would be in line with one of the main Platinum Jubilee themes – the Queen’s Green Canopy.
As part of HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations, nominations are now open to recognise residents of South Lanarkshire who have made an outstanding voluntary contribution to their communities during the period of her reign (1952 to 2022).
One of the three categories of awards available is the Environment Platinum Jubilee Award and the Young Platinum Jubilee Award – open to those aged 18 and under on 14 July this year.
The other two categories are a Lifetime Achievement Platinum Jubilee Award (recognising work over a number of decades) and an Environment Platinum Jubilee Award.
In total 12 awards will be made by the council, three each across the four areas of South Lanarkshire (Cambuslang/Rutherglen, Clydesdale, East Kilbride and Hamilton). The closing date for all nominations is 14 July.
Council Leader Joe Fagan said: “The awards are a great way to recognise the efforts of the volunteers in our communities.
“There are plenty of people out there who give up their own time and put in tremendous efforts to make things better for others.
“We know that a lot of the time they tend to be very modest – which is where we need your help.
“We are looking for people to nominate who they think should get the awards – with specific details of nominees and supporting comments from local groups.”
The easiest way to nominate someone is via the council website – but you can also send in details by post to: Platinum Jubilee Volunteering Awards, Floor 2, South Lanarkshire Council HQ, Almada St, Hamilton, ML3 0AA.
Please make sure if you are sending something in by post that you have all the fields filled in – name of nominee, status of nominee (Mr, Mrs, Dr etc), location of nominee, category nominated for, then your own name, phone and email address, along with a summary of why you think they are deserving of the award. Please add any information to support the nomination, but please note we cannot guarantee the return of any information you provide by post.
