Cyclists across South Lanarkshire are being encouraged to get on their bikes this Spring.

Some fantastic prizes are up for grabs as part of the Ride Anywhere Week which takes place from Monday 21 to Sunday 27 March.

Launched by Love to Ride South Lanarkshire, the aim of the week is to encourage people to enjoy the many benefits of riding a bike. Riders can choose their own pledge to ride and have a week to complete it! Love to Ride will support and encourage riders to complete their pledges and help to facilitate long-lasting, beneficial behaviour change.

Riders can choose one of the following four pledges:

  • Ride for health and fitness - there are a LOT of reasons to enjoy a bike ride, find out more about the most tangible ones that will help you feel happier and stronger and live longer.
  • Ride for transportation - to work, to school, to the store - we’ll help you start making any journey from A to B by bike.
  • Ride for adventure - whether it’s to ride somewhere new or bikepack for the first time, enjoy a pedal-powered adventure.
  • Ride with kids - saddle up and enjoy a bike ride with your kids this week. It might seem complicated, but Love to Ride can help you roll out together.

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: “Cycling is a great way to get out and about, get active and to see some of the wonderful sights on your doorstep.

“There is of course the added chance to win prizes, and the four pledges on offer opportunities to get the full family involved.

“So I would encourage as many people as possible to sign up now, set your pledges and get involved – and good luck.”

For each of the four pledges Love to Ride are giving away a prize, as well as a New Rider and Pre-Registration prize.

Prizes include a £100 voucher for Bike Barn in Strathaven, £100 voucher for Camglen Biketown, £25 vouchers for Roasted, Paesano Pizza and the Heron Farm Shop and Kitchen, plus a Family Annual Pass worth £25 for the National Museum of Rural Life in East Kilbride.

Taking part in Ride Anywhere Week is easy. You only have to ride for 10 minutes to start working towards your pledge and be in with a chance to win prizes. Love to Ride will provide useful information for riders and help them from the first push of the pedal.

So how does it work?

Encouraging more people to cycle supports South Lanarkshire Council's Air Quality Action Plan, delivered by the Environmental Services Team.
