Area Committee agrees £2000 of community grants

Almost £2000 in community grants was awarded this week by Hamilton Area Committee. 

Councillors agreed to applications from six groups from Larkhall, Blantyre, Hamilton, and Bothwell (pictured) when they met on Wednesday afternoon for the final committee of the financial year. Recipients include a tenants’ association, a ladies bowling club and a community horticultural group.

The full list of grants approved is:

  • Bothwell Futures - £250 for start-up costs, administration, and publicity costs 
  • Stonefield Area Association, Blantyre - £200 for start-up costs administration costs, and equipment 
  • Shawlands Crescent Tenants’ Association, Larkhall - £200 for start-up costs, administration, and publicity costs 
  • Blantyre Miners’ Welfare Charitable Society - £206 for materials and equipment 
  • Eddlewood Bowling Club (Ladies Section) - £200 for an outing 
  • Bothwell Horticultural Society - £900 for equipment admin, and publicity costs 

The purpose of the community grants scheme is to fund activities and projects which deliver community benefit and bring people together to enjoy educational, recreational, leisure, and other activities, or to improve the local environment. 

Support can be provided for everything from outings and entrance fees to admin and start-up costs and special events. 

Despite this being the last meeting of the financial year, applications continue to be invited, with decisions on awards made by the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Resources, in consultation with the Chair of the committee. Any decisions made will be reported to a future meeting.
