The winner of the council’s free hamper competition has been announced – just in time for Christmas.

Melitta Pllu, from Carluke, won more than £600 worth of goods and vouchers from local food and drink producers from across South Lanarkshire.

The competition was to allow the council to celebrate those local producers and showcase some of the very best food and drink available right on your doorstep. Funding came from SAC Consulting (Connect Local Regional Food Fund) and the council for the hamper.

Melitta said: “I was just delighted to learn I had won this competition!

“It’s going to be a great chance to try some local food and drink that I haven’t got round to trying or hadn’t yet heard of.

“I am already a customer of a few of the local businesses who have kindly contributed to this amazing prize.

“I’ll be sharing my experiences with friends and family and plan to make extra donations to the Clydesdale food bank too this year as I realise how fortunate I am. Thank you!”

Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said: “Congratulations to Melitta and I am sure she will thoroughly enjoy this fantastic prize.

“We are proud that so many great food and drink producers are based in South Lanarkshire and that Melitta will now get the chance to sample some of their fantastic produce.

“I would encourage everyone to try and buy food and drink from local producers – many of them have websites or social media pages so you can get deliveries directly to your door.”

The businesses who contributed to the competition were: Biggar Gin, Damn Delicious, Drink of the Land, El Artissano, Harris and Ollies, Hillhead of Covington, Millers Larder, McLean’s Gin, Mushtaqs, Old Mother Hunt, Sandra’s Kitchen, Shirley’s Kitchen Garden, The Heron Farm Shop & Kitchen, The Orchard, Tunnock’s and Woodfired Guys.

The correct answer to the competition question was that the council’s HQ is located in Hamilton (Almada Street).
