Improvements to bulk-uplift collections
Published: Monday 13 July 2026
The council has introduced new arrangements for bulk uplift collections aimed at keeping streets cleaner and reducing obstructions.
Under the new system, residents must place booked bulk items within their property boundary, such as in a front or back garden, driveway, or communal area for flats, at the closest accessible point to the road.
Items should be placed on hardstanding or a path wherever possible. If items must be placed on grass, they should be positioned directly beside a path or hardstanding area, so crews do not have to cross grass.
Kerbside collections will now only be used when there is no suitable location within the property. In these cases, residents will receive alternative instructions when making their booking.
Executive Director of Community and Enterprise Resources, Kevin Carr, said: “This change will help keep streets cleaner and clear from obstructions.
“Guidelines are available on how to prepare for your bulk uplift, and we would ask that items are ready for collection by 7am on the day they are to be collected.
“Please remember to only leave out items included in your booking, additional items won’t be uplifted.
“Items should be visible and accessible to the collection crew, please also unlock gates and remove obstacles to allow the crews safe access to the items for uplift.
“You should also safely place Items as per the guidance given at the time of booking, and keep pets restrained or indoors on the day so crew can enter garden safely.”
More information on bulk uplifts is available on the council website.
