The £50,000 project by SGN will see the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe.

The work which last approximately six weeks is being carried out over two phases to help minimise disruption:

Phase one – approximately three weeks
On Monday 1 July work begins in Muir Street, Hamilton. To ensure everyone’s safety, both lanes traveling westbound towards Bothwell Road will be closed to traffic. A contraflow system will be in operation on the eastbound side of the carriageway from Low Parks Museum to Backrow.
The pedestrian crossing outside Low Parks Museum is expected to be closed and a temporary crossing point installed.

Phase two – approximately three weeks
From Monday 22 July work continues along Muir Street. Temporary three-way traffic lights will be installed at the junction of Lower Auchingramont Road to allow the final section of the work to be completed.

SGN will be posting regular updates and using social media and traffic bulletins to keep residents and motorists informed.
