South Lanarkshire Council Chair of Education Councillor Katy Loudon inspects one of the artworks created by students studying Advanced higher Art

A showcase for some of South Lanarkshire’s most talented young artists and designers has opened at Chatelherault Country Park.

The show features work created by students undertaking Advanced Higher Art courses and encompasses a diverse range of styles and disciplines from fine art to fashion and fabric.

Many of the former pupils whose work is on display are now on their way to developing careers in their chosen field be it textile design, painting, print or fashion.

Among those featured is Abby Thomson from Hamilton who is currently studying International fashion business at Caledonian University.

Abby said: “I am really grateful to my former teachers in the art department at Hamilton Grammar they helped me explore and discover the foundations of art and then supported my development as an artist in my own right as I progressed through Nat 5, Higher and Advanced Higher.

“Particularly in the Advanced Higher class we formed a strong and supportive group who encouraged and nurtured each other’s talent I made some of my favourite high school memories with these people.

"I couldn't be happier to see us all doing what we've always wanted to do.”

South Lanarkshire Council Chair of Education Councillor Katy Loudon said; “This exhibition is a well-deserved showcase for a group of very talented young people and well worth a visit.

“The work on show is fresh and innovative and I am sure any pupils currently studying art will get a great deal of inspiration and encouragement from it.”

The exhibition in the Cadzow Gallery within Chatelherault Visitor Centre and is on until Saturday, 30 June.
