Major improvements will be carried out along Leechlee Road in Hamilton during August.

In order to carry out these essential resurfacing works with minimum disruption to road users, the work will be carried out over two phases.

  • Phase 1 - Brandon Street to Chapel Street from 14-16 August from 8am to 8pm each day. Lane closures will be used with access being maintained to Cadzow Street, Strathmore Road, Lamb Street and Chapel Street. There is likely to be delays for traffic using Leechlee Road and the surrounding road network.
  • Phase 2 - Chapel Street to Cadzow Street from 17-19 August from 7pm to 6am each night. Leechlee Road will be closed during these times with local access only via Campbell Street onto Cadzow Street which is not suitable for buses or HGVs. Access will only be for Police, emergency vehicles and residents from Strathmore Road, Quarry Street, Campbell Street, Cadzow Street and the old town. Diversion for buses and HGVs via Brandon Street, Union Street, Almada Street, Muir Street and Lower Auchingramont Road and if required Palace Grounds Road.

Local access for businesses/residents within the closure area will be maintained wherever possible.

However, there may be instances where access may be significantly delayed. If you wish to avoid this, it may be advisable to park your vehicle outside the road closure area prior to the works starting. Traffic Marshals and site staff will be there to advise and assist residents during the works.

Councillor Robert Brown, the chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources, said: “These works are being carried out in phases to help minimise any inconvenience to road users.

“But inevitably there may be some disruption so we hope people will understand. The council is making every effort to accommodate local businesses and residents and we are grateful for the co-operation of everyone concerned.

“We ask that all road users allow additional time for any journeys in the Leechlee Road area throughout these phased works.

“We apologise for any inconvenience but are sure that road users will benefit from these essential improvement works once they have been completed."
