Garrion Bridge repairs to get underway next week
Published: Monday 23 January 2023
Repair works are to take place at two sections of the Garrion Bridge.
The nature of the works means the old section of the bridge will need to be closed for approximately three weeks, with three-way temporary traffic signals installed.
The works will take place from Monday 30 January until Monday 20 February, although the council will be liaising with the contractor to get the works finished sooner if possible.
The traffic signal timings will be manually controlled during peak periods similar to those undertaken during the Horsley Brae works.
Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “The need for this work at Garrion Bridge arises from major damage done following a traffic accident.
“Unfortunately, the nature and location of the work needed will result in significant delays to traffic in the area.
“We can only apologise for this, but it is important that repair works are started as soon as possible as this will mean there is no need for lengthier and more complex works.
“It would be advisable for road users to avoid the area if at all possible during the works, or if this is not possible to leave extra time for their journeys.”
The bridge was damaged following a vehicle collision last month and inspection works revealed another area where repairs are also needed.
