A road in Clydesdale has now reopened following challenging improvement works to an adjacent wall.

Mousemill Road in Kirkfieldbank had been closed as the 4.2m high roadside Category B listed masonry retaining wall showed signs of lateral movement and failure.

Work started earlier this year on an arrangement which includes a strengthened slope and new free-standing wall constructed from the original wall masonry which was salvaged and set aside for re-use during the works.

The works also included narrowing of the road, the installation of a new fence and a designated area for walking for pedestrians.

Chair of the council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor Robert Brown, said: “The new road layout consists of a single lane with priority traffic movement.

“Advance warning signs informing users of the new traffic management layout have been installed.

“This was a very challenging and innovative project and I am sure local road users will be pleased the work is now complete.”
