Team South Lanarkshire is in the final stages of preparation for the International Children's Games.

An informal meeting between athletes, parents, coaches and support staff took place last night at Chatelherault to go over the final details.

The team will head to Coventry for the International Children’s Games (ICG) on Thursday.

In total 16 young people will be representing South Lanarkshire – the girls’ football team will have an eight-strong squad for the six-a-side games, the swimming squad has four competitors and there are also four young people competing in athletics.

General Manager of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture (SLLC), Kay Morrison, said: “Last night was really to get the families together and let them know the logistics and finer details of the trip in an informal way.

“The parents heard what was happening over a burger and soft drinks and there was a great presentation from Hugh Waters about the history of the Games and South Lanarkshire’s involvement through the years.

“I have been delighted to see how much of a team effort this has been across SLLC to organise this trip, everyone from the coaches and support staff who will be going to Coventry, to the admin staff who have been putting everything in place behind the scenes, all of them deserve immense credit.

“Special thanks go to Karen McInally who has been the driving force behind getting everything organised for the ICG.

“Best wishes to Team South Lanarkshire – I am sure they will be fantastic ambassadors for the area.”

The Games take place in Coventry over six days from 11-16 August. More than 1,600 young athletes from across the globe will be taking part across seven sports.
