Every five years the council is required to complete a full review of its Local Housing Strategy.

The current strategy ends this year and a new strategy covering the period from 2022-27 is being prepared.

This important strategy covers all aspects of housing and homelessness services for tenants, as well as services the council and our partners provide to people who own or privately rent their homes in South Lanarkshire.

The current strategy has eight different themes with a range of actions that aim to improve homes and services as well as actions required to meet new or updated legislation or guidance. Some of the key achievements from the current strategy include:

  • Over 1,000 additional affordable homes delivered for social rent across South Lanarkshire, including an increase in amenity properties and properties acquired to meet specific needs.
  • Significant improvements in the proportion of council homes which meet the Scottish Housing Quality Standard and Energy Efficiency Standard for Social Housing.
  • A range of improved outcomes for those experiencing homelessness, including reductions in the time spent in temporary accommodation and an overall reduction in levels of homelessness.

As part of the development of the next strategy, tenants and residents in South Lanarkshire will have the opportunity to have their say on what they would like to see included.

A full public consultation will take place during the summer with further details to be provided on the council’s social media pages, website and through local community groups.

We’ll also be holding a number of different focus group sessions to help gather views. If you would like to be involved, please email us.
